Pre-Hockey/Learn to Skate Classes
(ages 4 - 12)

Our Pre-Hockey curriculum is designed to teach the fundamentals of hockey skating. This class is designed to give the inexperienced skater a solid foundation for developing their skating abilities and to prepare them for ice hockey and team play. Proper skating techniques are the primary focus of these levels. Skaters will learn the necessary fundamentals to be successful in game situations.


Pre-Hockey I: Beginner

This class helps build confidence in the child's skating ability and teaches the student the basic skills of: balance, one and two foot glides, forward swizzles, forward pushing, backwards wiggles and swizzles, T-pushes and two foot snowplow stops, forward to backward transitions. The basics of puck control, passing and receiving will be introduced in this class.

Pre-Hockey II: Intermediate

This class continues to focus on the child's skating ability and introduces new elements: full forward strides, forward crossovers, one foot snow plow stops, backward c-cuts, backward crossovers, forward stops and starts and hockey stops. This class will also focus on additional development of passing, receiving and puck control.

Pre-Hockey III: Advanced

This class will continue working on the players skating ability along with puck control, passing and receiving. The focus of this class is to get the skater ready for team play.

5:30-6:30 pm: Pre-Hockey I (Beginner)
6:30-7:30 pm: Pre-Hockey II (Intermediate)
7:30-8:30 pm: Pre-Hockey III (Advanced)

PREREQUISITES:

Children must be able to balance themselves on skates and move across the rink on their own. Tot or Pre-Alpha Skating Classes are required prior to admission into Pre-Hockey class.

EQUIPMENT:

Helmet with face mask is required. All other equipment is optional but recommended.
